I’ve Only Been at This Job for 6 Months

What are good reasons to give the interviewer for why I want to change jobs?

Summary

I find this question fascinating because it begs the question what’s wrong with the truth?

What’s wrong with this job that is prompting you to consider other things?

I don’t get the idea that discrimination is the issue here.

I get the idea that this is a fairly traditional job change and, as such, you give fairly traditional answers to their questions.

For example, you been working there for six months and discover the commute is too long.

“I thought I could do this but I cannot. It’s eating me up,” and go in with the truth. “It’s only going to get worse because the snow will make it unbearable. That’s a good reason for changing jobs.

The work was misrepresented to you. Basically say, “I was told the work was going to be one thing but it’s something very different. That’s a very valid reason to change jobs

I need to make more money is a less valid reason because, frankly, you knew what the money was when you started.

Generally, the truth is going to be the right answer and you don’t want to have to try to remember what the truth is or remember the lie that you told in order to get this job.

Stick with the truth.

I think it’s going to serve you a lot better.

Do you think employers are trying to help you? You already know you can’t trust recruiters—they tell as they think you need to know to take the job they after representing so they collect their payday.

The skills needed to find a job are different yet complement the skills needed to do a job.
